The Story of Juniper Hill Ranch

Framed by Table Mountain to the east and some of the tallest foothills near Boulder, Juniper Hill Ranch was one of those places that felt like a huge discovery when we first set eyes on it.

History of Juniper Hill Ranch

Bordered by the historic Tollgate Ditch, our ranch was originally owned by the Kirkmeyer family whose farm house resides on the Pastures of Plenty property, an organic farm down the street. In 1969, a German woman with a passion for horses carved a 10-acre ranch out of the original Kirkmeyer Farm. She built a house, a small barn and then a large barn with a riding arena, all of which exist today.

When we bought Juniper Hill Ranch, it was in need of serious work. And that is a vast understatement. Weeds had taken over the property, tossing themselves across pastures and the yard areas. It was a bit daunting. We had never owned a ranch, nor a tractor, horse, sheep or a goat. We didn’t know the difference between hay and alfalfa or that equipment like manure spreaders even existed.

But we were up for a new adventure. And we knew that with work and love, the ranch could be restored to a place for kids and adults to gather, have new experiences and feel connected to this beautiful corner of the West.

Through our summer camps and horse boarding community, we are excited that Juniper Hill Ranch is a place where people can come together and feel a strong sense of belonging in a ranch setting just a couple miles from Boulder but worlds away.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference. You have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
